Trading risk disclosure

Version 2026-10-24 · Effective 2026-10-24

Read this before you trade with real money

Trading crypto with a bot can lose money quickly, including all of the money on your exchange account. Only trade with money you can afford to lose. Nothing in Project Y is financial advice.

Before a bot's first live start, you confirm this statement:

I understand live trading uses real funds on my exchange, that I can lose money, and that backtest and paper results do not guarantee future results.

Crypto markets

  • Prices can move sharply in minutes, and a coin can lose most or all of its value.
  • Markets can be thin, so orders may fill at worse prices than expected, or not at all.
  • Exchanges can go down, be hacked, freeze withdrawals, delist coins or fail.
  • Laws and rules about crypto change, and can affect what you are allowed to trade.

Automated trading

  • A bot follows its rules without judgment. It keeps trading in conditions its rules were not built for.
  • Slippage, fees, partial fills, rejected orders, rate limits and network problems can all change results.
  • Software, including ours, can have bugs.

Backtests and paper trading

Backtests run your rules on past prices, and paper bots trade with simulated money. Both model fees and fills approximately. A strategy can look good because it fits the past too closely. Backtest and paper results do not guarantee future results.

AI and checks

The AI can misunderstand your idea or write rules that differ from what you meant. Read the rules before you run them. Audits, robustness checks and the live gate (at least 7 days of paper trading, 20 paper trades, a passing audit and robustness checks, plus your approval) reduce some risks. They do not remove them.

The bot engine and protections

Stop losses, the kill switch and other in-app protections only work while the bot engine is running and your exchange is reachable. If the engine restarts, live bots are not restarted automatically. Watch your exchange account yourself, and keep the exchange app at hand to close positions.

API keys

Use trade-only keys with withdrawals turned off. Even so, anyone who gets a trade-only key can place bad trades with it. If you think a key is exposed, delete it on your exchange straight away.

Leverage and futures

Live futures are off. Futures are available only in backtests and paper trading. With leverage, a small price move can lose more than the margin you put up.
